Gijs Nolet
Gijs Nolet is a seasoned professional who has been working on sustainability and development issues for over 20 years. His specific expertise is in innovative financing issues and environmental and social management. From 1993 to 2006, he was based in Washington D.C., where he worked at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), first as an environmental legal and institutions expert, and subsequently as an advisor in the Office of the Presidency. At the IDB, he was responsible for several strategies, studies and publications related to environment, water, biodiversity, climate change, and financing sustainability. He also worked on the IDB’s Private Sector Strategy.
During his earlier years with the Dutch Ministry of Finance (1989 – 1993), he worked on the EU budget and the different EU funding programs, with a particular focus on environment and development. He also participated in the 1992 Earth Summit.
Since 2008, he has worked as an Associate Partner on emerging markets finance issues. His assignments have included the analysis of good practices of responsible supply chains, environmental and social due diligence methodologies for financial institutions, preparation of annual sustainability reports as well as various evaluations and writing up good practice notes.
Gijs has a law degree from the University of Nijmegen (1987) and a post-graduate degree in international relations from the University of Amsterdam (1989). He is fluent in Dutch, English and Spanish and has a good working knowledge of French and German.
