T. Boone Pickens one of the most famous oilmen in the US is promoting alternative energy. Pickens launched the
“Pickens Plan”. The country’s dependency on foreign oil is his main motive. The environment is also an argument, but is seems to be more of a side note. By investing in wind power. Pickens wants to free up natural gas which can consequently be used for transportation. The sums of money he invests are huge. His commitment is real. The Pickens Plan intends to influence the next US president. Will this initiative indeed make the US the Saudi Arabia of wind power? And how will this influence the debate on wind energy in Europe?
