Triple Value’s happy birthday
September 15, 2008
Last week we celebrated the tenth anniversary of Triple Value. 10 years ago sustainable entrepreneurship was not exactly a mainstream topic for most companies. It was a time of exploring and convincing. Sustainability was pretty much in a “double negative” mode. For example: it was not considered to be irrelevant to explore the need and way to take on sustainability. Way to go! George Orwell has said that the cure for the use of a double negative is to memorise the phrase “a not unblack dog was chasing a not unsmall rabbit. We felt that a globalising economy, increasing scarcity of raw materials, population growth and inequality would fundamentally change the way companies would have to perform. This would require linking people and planet challenges to the value creation process. Our work has always been focused on the relevance of sustainability and linking it to value creation; taking it from a double negative to a win-win proposition.
Today sustainability is “hot”, but this does not mean that business has “cracked” the case. Although a lot of progress has been made over the last decade, companies continue to deal with a lot of challenges:
* How can we green our portfolio, profitably?
* How can we enter emerging economies and serve the bottom of the pyramid?
* How can we secure our sustainability actions in our governance system and use stakeholder input in a relevant way?
* How do we roll out our sustainability policies throughout our organisation and make sure all our people “walk the talk”?
* How can we measure our sustainability impact?
It was great to celebrate 10 years of Triple Value with so many clients and friends. The next decade will be even better. Do you want to join our community?
