"Winners Make It Happen; Losers Let It Happen"

October 3, 2010

This week Unilever acquired the American company Alberto Culver. The news clippings about this acquisition covered stories about the company’s founder Leonard Lavin. His motto was “winners make it happen, losers let it happen.”

A great motto for a self-made business man, but also one that can inspire everybody who wants our economy to become more sustainable.

A significant difference this week:
In his weekly address President Barack Obama promotes solar power and a clean energy economy. The potential of the clean energy sector may be a catalyst for new jobs, he says. Clean energy will also lower the reliance on foreign oil and protect the planet.

This week in The Netherlands: the plan of the new government (of the three political parties forming this government just now) includes changes in the regime for sustainable investment which forces greenbanks to close their funds. This plan is already disapproved by the Dutch Banker’s Association (NVB) but the outcome is yet to be seen.

Somebody is making it happen this week, another one is letting it happen. Guess who?

Great topic here. Work of many people on this issue of plastic, there are several plastic materials recycling organic-based view. In February, for example, Imperial College London and bioceramic drug polymer biodegradable plastic from sugar derived from the decay of lignocellulosic biomass. There is also an existing plant more corn starch and plastics based on paper, including household goods and food packaging, bioplastics toys, plastic dynamic Cereplast. Metabolix also several lines of plastic products from corn, in cooperation with partner companies.
