How can we effectively integrate our sustainability ambitions in the tool box of our investment officers? This was the question we were asked by BOM Capital, one of the units of the Brabant Development Agency (BOM). The mission of BOM is to create, improve, maintain and develop the industrial and economic structure in the Dutch province of Brabant by offering a range of professional services. BOM Capital finances innovative and financially healthy companies by providing equity capital and subordinated loans.
Sustainability is part of the strategic focus of the organisation. Yet, BOM wanted to provide investment officers a tool that would help them identify sustainability risks and opportunities and facilitate the dialogue with (portfolio) companies.
Miriam Dragstra, Director of BOM Capital, says: “Initially we were a bit worried that we would create a lot of bureaucracy, whereas we wanted a practical tool. Steward Redqueen really made the difference. They understand our business and sustainability needs. They have global experience in the investment industry and a drive to make sustainability work. By facilitating several internal dialogues on our challenges and opportunities they helped us prioritise issues and connect sustainability to our sector focus. Together we developed a very effective tool which supports us in our mission to integrate sustainability in our investment process.”
