- ego + eco
5 mei 2009
Yet another example of how the automobile industry is embracing environmental stewardship.
However, the current plans of Fiat to build a huge European automobile company through the acquisition of Chrysler and European General Motors subsidiaries give a different taste to the less ego, more eco claim.
Fiat is not short of ego: given its economical track-record the acquisition plans are –let’s put it mildly- remarkable. Only with enormous government support the suffering companies can be joined in one group. Apparently saving jobs would be the reason for considering this kind of governmental life lines. But shouldn’t the laws of the economy prevail? Wouldn’t it be better to let the market do its work? Then governmental support –if desirable at all- could be allocated to healthy parts of the car industry. And to true eco-innovations (economically sensible and environmentally proven). Especially now the government should realise that it can only spend each Euro once. It can find inspiration in the words of Fiat:
“- ego + eco” “Less is more, less is better, less is genius”.
