ESG Risk Management Framework for Golden Gate Ventures

Golden Gate Ventures is a global venture capital firm headquartered in Singapore, investing into Seed, Pre-Series A, and Series A rounds in tech-enabled businesses in Asia and beyond. Founded in 2011, the firm manages more than US$300M. As part of its recent Fund IV raise, Golden Gate Ventures welcomed AIIB as a Limited Partner, becoming the first fund manager in Southeast Asia to receive funding from the development bank’s inaugural Venture Capital program. Designed to accelerate innovation in green and technology-enabled infrastructure, the program channels capital into early-stage companies through venture capital funds. AIIB’s selection of Golden Gate Ventures reflects the fund’s strong alignment with the bank’s priorities.

Golden Gate Ventures engaged Steward Redqueen to support the integration of AIIB’s sustainability requirements—specifically its Environmental and Social Framework and Paris Agreement Methodology—into the firm’s ESG risk management practices. Steward Redqueen designed and developed an ESG Risk Management Framework for the firm, including an ESG policy, screening mechanisms, a risk categorisation methodology, questionnaires for due diligence, and templates to document action plans, reporting, and legal covenants.

We also supported Golden Gate Ventures with a two-day ESG Risk Management training tailored to their investment context. The program covered sustainable finance principles, their ESG risk framework, and practical case studies drawn from Golden Gate Ventures’ own pipeline. Participants worked through real-world scenarios, applying the framework to familiar companies and making it directly relevant to their day-to-day operations.

As a result, the firm has a practical framework that meets complex investor requirements. With this framework the team ensures consistent evaluation, mitigation, and reporting on ESG risks, while improving these processes at portfolio companies.
