GHG emissions quanitifiation for Invest International

We developed a baseline carbon footprint for Invest International in line with international standards

Invest International finances Dutch solutions for global challenges. The organisation aims to help businesses, governments and investors to finance and develop impactful projects that contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth) and SDG 13 (climate action). Regarding SDG 13, Invest International has committed to a carbon neutral portfolio in 2030. To operationalise this commitment, Invest International has asked Steward Redqueen to quantify the GHG emissions of their portfolio.

As Invest International had limited data available to quantify their GHG footprint, we supported them in using the Joint Impact Model (JIM). The JIM has been developed by Steward Redqueen together with the JIM Foundation and other financial institutions. The JIM enables organisations to model Scope 1, Scope 2 and upstream Scope 3 emissions of a financing portfolio in line with PCAF Standard using economic data as an input. We supported Invest International with collecting the appropriate input data, running the model, and analysing and reporting results.

The project enables Invest International to report their Scope 1, Scope 2 and upstream Scope 3 emissions of their portfolio. It also provides insights into focus areas for reducing emissions, and recommendations for improving GHG reporting in the future.
